Firearm Related
Questions
1. Who is eligible
to receive a CPL / CCW in Michigan?
Michigan residents (of at
least six months) 21 years of age or older who have successfully
completed a CCW safety training course and have not been convicted of
a crime described under PA 719 of 2002 are eligible to apply for a
license.
2. How do I apply
for a CPL / CCW in Michigan?
Once you have successfully
completed a personal protection course recognized in PA 719 of 2002
you fill out an application packet and submit fingerprints to the
state. After your application has been turned in, it goes before
the county gun board for final approval. The whole process can
take a couple of months or more depending on the number of
applications coming before the board at any given time.
3. How long is my
license good for?
Licenses issued since July
1, 2003 are issued for a period of five years.
4. How much does
it cost to get a license / permit?
A first time licensee will
have to pay $105.00 to the County Clerk at the time the application is
filed. Renewal licensee's wioll need to pay $105.00 for a
renewal license. This money is hared between local, state and
federal agencies for the costs of putting the license in effect.
5. Where can I
find application packets?
The County Sheriff, Local
Police Agencies and County Clerks will provide concealed pistol
applications kits during normal business hours (they are free of
charge).
6. Where can I
find CPL / CCW classes?
Right here! Why look
anywhere else, we are the best!
7. Where can't I
use my CPL / CCW?
Individuals licensed to
carry a concealed pistol by Michigan or another state are prohibited
from carrying a concealed pistol in the following areas:
a. Schools or school property, but
you may carry while in a vehicle on school property while dropping off
or picking up;
b. Sports arena or stadium;
c. A hospital;
d. Any property or facility owned
or operated by a church, synagogue, mosque, temple, or other place of
worship, unless the
presiding official
allows concealed weapons;
e. Public or private daycare
center, public or private childcare agency, or public or private child
placement agency;
f. A casino;
g. A dormitory or classroom of a
community college, college, or university;
h. Establishments that sell liquor
by the glass, which their primary source of income is alcoholic
beverages;
i. An entertainment facility that
the individual knows or should know has a seating capacity of 2,500 or
more.
NOTE; Premises does not include
parking areas of the above places
8. Can I use my CPL / CCW in Michigan State
Parks?
Yes. The DNR can no longer regulate CPL holders
as long as they do not attempt to take game with their firearm.
Carrying a pistol in an area frequented by game without a hunting
license is allowed if the individual has a concealed weapon permit.
Ref:
PA 129 &
PA 130. The DNR cannot promulgate or enforce a rule that prohibits
a CPL holder from carrying on property under the control of the DNR.
Be cautious of legal answers provided on other websites, because
they are frequently outdated or wrong. MCRGO , which we are a member
of, is the leader in both the Capitol and the Courts for a reason:
their attorneys do their homework!
9. Is
it legal to carry a visible pistol in public?

10.
Can a resident of another state
legally possess a pistol in Michigan?
If you are a non-resident of Michigan
with a valid concealed pistol permit from your home state, Michigan
will recognize your permit (MCL
28.432 & MCL
28.432a). However, you must carry in conformance with any and all
restrictions appearing on the permit. You are subject to Michigan's
concealed pistol law including but not limited to restrictions on
where a concealed pistol may be carried. Without a CPL, a non-resident
may not have a pistol in Michigan.
11. Is an individual required to carry a
copy of their Safety Inspection Certificate with them at all times?
Michigan law does not require a person
to have a copy of their certificate with their pistol after it has
been registered; nor does the law require that a person keep a copy.
12. How should long-guns be legally
transported?
MCL 750.227d describes that any firearm other than a pistol can
only be transported in a motor vehicle if it is unloaded and is one or
more of the following: taken down, enclosed in a case, carried in the
trunk of the vehicle, or inaccessible from the interior of the
vehicle. A violation of this section is a misdemeanor punishable by
imprisonment for not more than 90 days, or a fine of not more than
$100 or both.

We offer three (3)
different ways for you to attend one of our Concealed Pistol License Classes;
(we offer Concealed Pistol Renewal Licenses
at all of our classes);
1) You can attend one of the classes that we teach in
Lansing or Saint Johns, Michigan.
2) We will hold a class at your location, throughout
Michigan, if you have 12 people or more. We do
this for service
organizations, businesses, unions, clubs and private groups. If you are
the
individual who organizes the
class in your area and you have at least 12 people to attend, you
can attend the class for
FREE (and you can be the 12th
person, so you only need 11 more).
If we hold a class at
your location, you will need to provide a place to hold the class, it can
be most anywhere (even a home)
as long as there is a white wall for projection overheads.
You will need to provide a
legal shooting location, such as a gun club, shooting range, or
even a farm in the country
that allows the shooting of .22 caliber pistols. This allows us to
provide the class to you at
the $80.00 price. For CPL / CCW Classes where we have
to
come to
your area, we need the FULL $80.00 Class Fee for each attendee, before we will
leave to
hold the class in your area. This protects us from traveling along way to
only find a few
attendees
showed up for the class.
